British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends her season and plans to retain coach through next year.
Emma Raducanu reached the third round in three out of four Grand Slam events in the current campaign.
Britain's Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions this season because of a health issue that has affected her over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old had planned to participate in events in Asia but chose to travel back to recover prior to beginning next year's training.
These plans will include her coach Francisco Roig, as they have agreed to work together for the upcoming season.
Raducanu required blood pressure checks while playing the initial match against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required a doctor's assessment at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.
She was also playing far from freely in the final set versus Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has been a concern at times this year.
These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after a long gap since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third round in last month's Beijing event.
Raducanu won 28 matches in the current season and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way then falling in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
Her coach was Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with a training session scheduled for the end of the year.
Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
The player was close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati in August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she made the third stage prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
