Democrats Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials voiced outrage after the ex-president alleged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and declared they should be arrested and penalized "by death" following their release of a controversial video.

The Content That Sparked the Debate

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly acted in military or defense capacities.

"As we did, you all made an vow to defend and support this founding document," the representatives stated in the 90-second video. "At present, the threats to our constitution are not only from abroad, but from within our own country. Our statutes are clear, you can reject unlawful commands, you can decline improper directives, you should reject illegal orders. No one has to follow directives that contravene the statutes or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Incensed Reaction

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a furious response from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This represents really bad, and Dangerous to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Top Democrats issued a combined declaration condemning the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no position in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all worked our United States with great national pride and distinction. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's appalling and risky calls for execution against elected officials, and call on Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these unhinged social media posts and withdraw his violent discourse before he gets someone killed," the declaration added.

Representatives' Firm Reaction

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also published a statement.

"We are ex-military personnel and defense specialists who love this nation and swore an pledge to safeguard and defend the national charter of the United States," they said. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No intimidation, intimidation, or call for violence will deter us from that fundamental duty."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it punishable by death for us to reiterate the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their pledge to the national charter and duty to follow only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They added: "Every American must come together and condemn the former president's requests for our death and political violence. This is a time for ethical certainty."

Further Governmental Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's statements and published on social media: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is calling for the capital punishment of government members."

He continued: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "It is very dangerous, you have leading members of the government advising military personnel to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."

The Republican leader also allegedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "attorneys have to parse the wording and establish all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a media member, "Would the president want to execute members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson answered: "No."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is reacting to," the official stated. "There are active officials of the US Congress who conspired to orchestrate a recorded statement to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members advising them to disobey the commander in chief's proper directives."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the chain of command, and if that structure is violated, it can cause casualties, it can lead to disorder, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are fundamentally promoting."
