Citizens have gathered across the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people killed in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the proposal.

A prominent delegate familiar with the talks revealed that an evening round of negotiations began at evening in Egypt.

The source stated the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, due to differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "tough and have still not achieve any significant progress," but noted that intermediaries are striving to close the gaps between the two sides.

Critical Points in Discussions

  • A permanent truce
  • The swap of the captives still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future administration of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young Hagar - whose family member endured the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location feels like home any longer and until each abducted person are released not a single person will feel safe."

"After we see everyone home again, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

Near the leader's home in the capital, people gathered to show their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement needed for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be protected."

Surveys now consistently show that about 70% of Israelis want the hostilities to end in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the gathering, those paying respects came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, sector and locality districts and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the evening arrives, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"We are terrified of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my smallest child who places his face on me all night."

"Every second we check the news to see developments. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the fighting will resume to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of Khan Younis said another two fatalities had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the southern area, medical staff reported.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
