New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
