Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side only seven months following leading disrespectful songs targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy time with Leeds was ended amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Challenges
The forward made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
