The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead another team within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; No need for press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
